Can FSGS Cause Back Pain

Can FSGS Cause Back PainFSGS (Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis) is a kidney problem that can cause progressive loss of kidney function which can cause many clinical manifestations. The most common symptoms of FSGS are swelling and foamy urine, but in some cases, FSGS patients may find they begin to experience back pain after the diagnosis. Why is this? Can FSGS cause back pain?

What is FSGS?

FSGS is a kid of kidney problem that scars the kidneys, causing them to lose functionality. It is the most common cause of primary glomerular disease in adults. In FSGS, less than 50% of glomeruli are injured partly. Glomerulus contains membrane which can separate wastes and blood. So, when glomeruli are injured, toxins build up in the blood and nutrients which should be preserved in the blood leak into urine. That is the reason, why FSGS is always accompanied with low GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate), proteinuria and high creatinine level.

Will FSGS cause back pain?

Back pain is not a common symptom of FSGS, but for people living with Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis, they may experience back pain in the following conditions:

1. Kidney infection

When kidney function is impaired due to FSGS, kidney infection is caused easily. Under such a condition, we will experience pain feeling in kidney location. Besides, kidney infection also cause some other symptoms like urgent urination and burning sensation during urination.

2. Kidney stone

FSGS can be accompanied with kidney stone. For small kidney stones, they can be passed easily by drinking much more water and doing some physical exercises. However, for large kidney stones, when they may struck in kidney. Under such a condition, when they move, back pain appears. Besides, kidney stones may injure kidney tissues, and thus cause blood urine.
